How to add a device manually when MDM or the ComplyJet Agent isn't available

How to add a custom device and upload compliance evidence manually when the ComplyJet Agent or an MDM isn't available for that device.

If a device can't run the ComplyJet Agent and isn't managed by an MDM, you can still register it in ComplyJet and upload evidence manually. This keeps the device visible in your compliance program without requiring an automated integration.

There are two ways to do this — an admin can add the device on behalf of an employee, or the employee can add it themselves from their own view.

Method 1 – Admin adds a device

Use this when an admin needs to register a device on behalf of a team member.

Step 1 – Open the Devices page

Go to Organisation → Devices in the left sidebar. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top right corner and select Add Device.

Step 2 – Create the device

In the modal that appears, enter a Device Name and select the Owner (the employee this device belongs to). Click Create.

Step 3 – Upload evidence for each compliance check

The device will appear in the list. Click on it to open the device panel. You'll see three compliance checks — Hard Drive Encryption, Antivirus, and Screen Lock — each showing Unavailable status. Click Upload Evidence next to each one.

Step 4 – Upload a screenshot for each check

Drag and drop or click to select a file. Upload one screenshot per compliance check showing that the control is enabled on the device.

Method 2 – Employee adds their own device

Use this when an employee adds their own device from the employee view.

Step 1 – Open My Devices

Go to Devices from the employee sidebar. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) next to the Enroll a Device button and select Add Device Manually.

Step 2 – Create the device

Enter a Device Name and the OS Version. Click Create Device.

Step 3 – Upload evidence for each compliance check

The device will appear in your list. Expand each compliance check — Hard Drive Encryption, Antivirus, and Screen Lock — and click Upload Evidence.

Step 4 – Upload a screenshot for each check

Drag and drop or click to select a file. Upload one screenshot per check showing that the control is active on your device.

What to upload for each check

Each compliance check requires a screenshot showing the setting is active on the device. Here's what to capture:

  • Hard Drive Encryption — a screenshot showing full-disk encryption is enabled (e.g. BitLocker on Windows, FileVault on macOS)

  • Antivirus — a screenshot showing an antivirus or endpoint protection tool is installed and active

  • Screen Lock — a screenshot showing a screen lock or idle timeout is configured on the device

One file per check is enough. Screenshots should clearly show the device or system name and the setting status.
